What Team Leaders should be aware of :
The team leader is a fellow worker and friend, not a supervisor;
leads by example, not by giving directions;
is a servant, not a master;
is a peacemaker, not a warrior;
is a coordinator, not an order giver;
is a facilitator, not an individual decision-maker; and
is a communications link, not a communications owner.
An Intro to our SIGs..........
What is Our Special Interest Group / SIG ?
A platform for Salam’s volunteer to share their common interests in specific areas. Volunteers enhance their knowledge, attitude and skills to develop their understanding of a specific area by partaking in group activities, discussion and information exchange. The SIGs is managed by A Coordinator, who is appointed by Yayasan Salam Malaysia/SALAM. He or she is responsible for maintaining a list of active volunteers, publicising in the Salam's Bulletin and enforcing the policies outlined on this document as well as acting as main support for the SIG.
Based on our Volunteer interest , Salam in Sarawak create 4 Special Interest Group namely ;
1. SIG Environment
2. SIG Technology
3. SIG Reader
4. SIG Health
What is Our activity ?
The type of activities is defined by the group itself. It may include the followings :
· A discussion group about issues that affect the area of interests ( eg on Environmental :
· A group activities that promote group project in the community
How ?
Each SIG will have to elect one of its members to lead their group. He/She will assist by 2 other member who act as recorder and treasurer. The main duty of the Team Leader is simply :
- Helps team members to identify their unique abilities and talents and then seeks to provide the environment, resources and opportunities that will enable them to use their special abilities to experience meaning from their work and contribute to team goals. The leader recognizes that work can be a desirable and meaningful activity and that people seek to derive fulfilment, purpose and joy from their employment situation.
To accomplish this, the leader finds ways to blend the needs of the organization with the higher level needs of team members. The leader takes an active interest in each person in the group and strives to build positive relationships with team members and among team members. In effect the leader is in a continual process of finding ways to build and strengthen each member’s skill set and self-worth based on their contribution to the group.
The key skills needed
- Facilitation
- Team problem solving
- Team decision-making and team communications.
Each of these skills requires knowledge of systematic processes and tools to move a group forward to accomplishing its mission in as efficient and effective way possible.
